I completely understand. I have always been afraid of dogs ,since some frightening experiences as a child. Yet, people still force their dogness on me. I agree that dogs should be kept out of public food places. They are not children after all. Oh, don't get me started on unattended children...

Don't worry about it. Some of these people think their dogs are people. The same ones who think you are a nut kiss their dogs on the mouth. Frankly I think people with dogs in NYC are as disgusting as people who smoke. Did you ever watch these people walking their dogs on the streets of the city as they piss all over everything. Now that is disgusting.

I am sick of that "love me, love my dog" way of thinking. I am sick of going someplace with people and the dog owners just bring their dogs along without so much as even thinking to ask if it is ok. The dogs run around and you are stuck watching them. You can not go on a picnic or anything to enjoy yourself without someone with their stupid dog trying to get in your food. I also hate people that think it is ok to take their dog with them when they come to your house to visit. I do not have a dog. I do not want a dog running around my yard or bothering me. I do not hate dogs but I am sick of dog owners forcing their dogs on everyone.

My boyfriend told me he did not want dogs running around his home or sleeping in beds and furniture. Definitely a lie. His stupid dog has been a bone of contention for a couple of years now. He tells me to run the house and set the rules. He breaks them by letting the mutt crawl up on the furniture. He gives the mutt bottled water. Steak every night. His stupid daughter in-law was allowing the mutt to crawl in her lap at the table so the dog could eat her leftovers from the plate on the table. I went through the roof. Told him I would never break bread around those damn dogs again and I meant it. No table manners whatsoever. That is another discussion entirely. Gave the mutt a bath in my bathroom only one time. Uses people towels to dry the filthy disease with. I spend too much money for nice things (not from Walmart either)for some animal who belongs outside. I do not, I repeat do not use any of these items for myself-trust me. I AM CLEAN. Needless to say, I wash his items separate from mine due to not wanting to catch a disease from this dirt digging, dead eating, smelly thing. I know some of this sounds like I live in squallor. Not so at all. I have been exposed to people without any breeding whatsoever it appears. He makes you think he is the epitome of class. Not so at all. Just a phony. How can anyone try to domestic something that belongs outside. They think these things are people. The hair is another bone of contention. I am writing this because the other day I came home to clean up the flooded garage and wondered why the mutt did not come right away. My boyfriend was downstairs and the dog was upstairs SLEEPING IN BED ON MY BRAND NEW $500 COMFORTER AND SHEETS with mud on him. I am sick of it. Goes behind my back for the dog and chasing tricks from time to time as well (tells me he does not-guys are the biggest liars on earth).. HE IS A CREEP. I thought I had a man. I got myself a pussy who loves his male doggie.

I am sick of it. I have been told I hate dogs. People make make people hate them by trying to force them to accept unfavorable living conditions for a filthy animal. I am tired of being told I hate dogs. I do not like the people who have dogs. i hate dogs too. everyone on my street has nasty dogs that crap all over my lawn.except me. I hate them. they bark all night. but the thing that makes me despise them is they attack my cats. every dog owner says "don't you love my dog? you should ditch those silly cats and get one!" it's like a club that i'm not invited to because i am a cat lover. when i tell them they scare my cats they say their dog is friendly and would never do that. everone wants me to be a dog lover too but i say no.

Having been brought up with dogs all my life, I felt that you all failed to highlight the good characteristics a dog has to offer our society.

Dogs are more than loyal and trusting, they serve as companions for those who have lost loved ones, they provide security within homes and they offer a sense of stability, love and affection for people less fortunate than ourselves, for example the blind and deaf population.

If it wasn’t for dogs, the blind and deaf population among us would find it almost impossible to lead a normal life.

Branding innocent dog owners as nasty people I feel is extremely unfair. Can the same be said about parents who experience problems with their unruly children?

I proudly accept as a compliment that we are labelled a nation of dog lovers. Unlike other pets, dogs are unable to fend for themselves without having to rely on humans. This title acknowledges the compassion and kind-heartedness dog owners bestow on their pets.

I strongly condemn the amount of excrement left behind in public places but would like to point out that this is mainly due to a small minority of irresponsible individuals, giving the average law abiding dog owner a bad name.

I live in Santa Barbara California county, dog noise and dog attacks are a serious problem around here. We just had a 61 year old lady pulled down in a parking lot and mauled in front of Christmas shoppers last week- a few miles from my condo. We actually had a "pitbull home invasion" where a pitbull invaded a family home and killed a 12 year old girls four pets in front of her (That was in Lompoc CA.)We even a head Santa Barbara City Council member mauled. Brain Barnwell was attacked by three pitbull's and mauled.
(Feb 14th 2004 Santa Barbara News press article) yet the county officials do nothing to control the dog noise pollution and attack problem in the county.

Dog attacks seem to happen every week. Santa Barba county officials appear to be dog bad behavior enablers. Dog noise here is hellish- there are hundreds of people here being tormented by dog noise pollution.

Michael Douglas- the famous movie star donated six hundred thousand dollars to help the city buy a nature preserve (the former Wilcox property). The rabid dog owners of Santa Barbara county turned it into a off the leash dog park. The dogs ruined the nature part of the preserve, and run rampant in the park dog fouling the ground. Very real danger of dog attack there. People are scared to go there now- they call it the "Douglas dog park"

Dog owners are the rudest humans on the planet, if you object to beining subjected to their dog noise pollution or environmental pollution- they seem to think that you are a problem.

I understand the comments I am reading. I too thought that dog people are the worst. I had a neighbor who considered herself a dog rescuer. She would pick up lost dogs and then lock them in a small bedroom while she went to work, or out shopping for the day. They would yelp and bark for hours. Our room, unfortunately, was right next to the room she locked the "rescued" dogs up in. My husband and I felt tortured for months. We worked very hard to get the animal control people to take away her ability to have dogs. We went to court, and we actually tried to sue her for disruption of our peace in our home. To no avail, she always seemed to fall through some crack in the laws and she would keep bringing home dogs and letting them bark and make noise. We finally moved. We couldn't take it anymore. It was the worst experience of my life and I can't explain how much pain the barking dogs caused my life.
Then about a year ago, my husband brings me home a little puppy for Valentine's Day. The weirdest thing happened, I fell instantly in love with that dog. So much so, that within three months, we got another dog as well. Nobody who knew my husband and I could believe that we were "one of those dog people" now.
Our dogs do not bark and bark and bark. The do not attack people, nor do they make a scene in public. They are very well behaved for the most part. We are still struggling with them jumping up on people when they enter our home. I agree with the people on this board who hate this. I do to, and I am working hard to teach them to stay down. I have found that dogs reflect their owners. Our dogs are loved (like they are our children--yikes) and they act peaceful and mellow around others. If any scene is caused in public, it is the people who come up to my husband and me in pubic and ooh and ahh at our dogs and ask if they can pet them. I actually get annoyed with the people who are constantly interrupting my day in public because they want to touch and pet my dogs, but they like it (both the dogs and the people)
I don't think dogs are bad now. I think that there are people who just shouldn't have them, and unfortunately, they are the reason behind most of the posts on this board it would seem.

I agree that there are unfortunately many irresponsible and abusive dog owners out there, which results in dogs with behavioral or aggression problems. However, the same can be said for people. Many abused or neglected children grow up with behavioral and aggression problems just the same, often committing crimes of violence. Are we really that different? Dogs are also cleaner than many people and loving owners keep them well groomed.

Dogs that grow up in loving environments become excellent citizens. They are amazingly intelligent and have senses that we could never have. Thousands of dogs are trained every year to sniff for bombs and drugs. They are trained within the armed forces and police academy and have often risked or sacrificed their own lives to save the life of a soldier or police officer. Any soldier or police officer who has lost their dog on duty would wholeheartedly tell you that the dog was truly their partner - and the loss is just as painful as a human death.
As someone mentioned above, many dogs are trained to be companions for the disabled, as well as rescuers at local ponds and lakes - finding and pulling drowning children to safety.

It is too bad that some inconsiderate dog owners have upset so many people, but I hope that everyone can at least keep an open mind. We all have to tolerate others' annoyances, dog or no dog, so please don't hate the dog. If you are frustrated with problems like stray dogs in your neighborhood, overbreeding, or irresponsible dog owners - take constructive action. Volunteer at the SPCA or help your town post signs about owners picking up after their dog and keeping them on a leash.

We can all complain about a lot of things in this world, but nothing will change if we don't each take personal responsibility for these issues. You may feel that it is not "your" problem and you shouldn't have to deal with it, but we should all pitch in to make our communities better. Many dogs are happy to do so.

Well, I am from Kentucky, from a very small town; And I have a phobia of dogs and cats. I am terrified. I'm a grown woman who runs from the most tiny dogs. But others think this is funny. It's hard for people to understand how someone could be scared of something that they know can't hurt them. But I wish that dog owners could just not take their dogs in stores, and blockbuster. In KY it seems alot of owners of businesses bring their dogs to work. I want to live in society and come out of my house, and be apart of the goods and service renderers but, IMagine the fear I experience when I go to Blockbuster at night thinking ooh i'm going to get a good love story tonight, and then here comes a little dog around the corner, And now my heart is beating fast and I dont want to cause a scene, but if I don't leave immediately I'm going to pass out. I'm JUST WONDERING DOG OWNERS where can I go. Or should I just stay at home and let others run errands for me, so that you and your dogs can enjoy your night out on the town????

I live in the UK, and am also sick of having other peoples dogs inflicted on me whether I like it or not.
I find most dogs to be smelly, dirty, clumsy, noisy, unhygienic drooling animals given to licking their genitals way too much (because they can, I've been told!), and it really irks me that, although I have chosen not to live with one of these mutts, nonetheless they regularly disrupt my life.
There are a small percentage of dog owners who have respect for other people's feelingS regarding their pets, but they seem to be in the minority. The law needs to reflect the fact that most dog owners simply cannot be trusted to be responsible.
Many people view their dogs as children and allow them to sleep in their beds, and it is particularly disgusting when they allow their germ-ridden pooches to lick them on the mouth. I wouldn't allow most people I know to do that! Have you seen where a dog puts its mouth? Into piles of the most unmentionable filth, that's where. Up his own ass. Up other dogs asses. Into vomit.In the garbage. And how does the average dog-owner respond to this behaviour? "Aw, he's kissing me! Look how he loves his Mummy/Daddy!" It's totally gross. And it spreads disease.
Even our public parks are not safe, as dogs are free to run around off the leash. Who pays the taxes? Us or the dogs? So why do the dogs get priority? People don't feel safe bringing their children to a public park where they can encounter any amount of large, possibly dangerous dogs unleashed and running around out of control. Have you seen the statistics for dog attacks every year? It's scary. And scarier still, dog-lovers, is that "man's best friend" is more likely to attack a family member than a stranger. Little kids have their faces ripped off by these carnivorous beasts.
Don't even get me started on the barking either. Or the crap all over the sidewalks.

i agree with the persons who express fustrations about dog or cat owners oviously i have the same problem. currently i have a fiance who is nuts about her cat and dog. well its fine when they shit on the floor they have accidents. i had to piss on my jeans just to make a point that if its not okay for me to do such a thing then itsjust as bad for a animal to do it in my house.

i lately had my fiance leave on trip to CA for her job. i took the couch put it in the back yard because the cat kept repeating the piss ritual and crapping in it. the morning she left i seen her scrub the couch with cleaner and it was just 10 minutes before we left for the airport i was dropping her off. you know i was so upset we fought or should i say i fought with her about the filth.

I do hate dogs, they really annoy me especially when I have to live with two flea ridden mutts. My ex-husband was also one of those psycho dogs lovers, he loved those damn dogs more than I.
Then I move in this nice home, well actually renting a room, when the owner informs me her son and his wife would be moving in as well. They had one small dog but soon picked up another mangy mutt from the pound. These dogs are in the house 24/7 and have fleas, I've been bitten numerous times and I have an allergy to them. The most recent outbreak has now turned into a horrid infection. I confronted these dog owners and they flat out denied thier precious little dogs have fleas...then where in the hell are these bites coming from? huh? I get bitten everytime I sit on the sofa in the living room.
Looks like I'll have to move again...damn I wanted to stay here for awhile, moving is such a chore and all because of these damn dirty nasty butt licking, shit eating dogs!!!!

Anyway, I realy do sympatise for those who are afraid of agressive dogs, as I used to have the same fear. You have to realise that agressive dogs are that way because of thier owners mistreating them. People especially breed pitbulls to fight but few people know that if treated proporly pitbulls are the nicest and most friendly dogs ever.
No one seems to take into account the amount of times dogs have saved peoples lives, only the people who are attacked are taken note of. Dogs have saved people from drowning, Hypothermia, have alerted others of unconsious owners, even from choking.
You can't hold these kind of stereotypes about dogs just like you can't hold these stereotypes about people.
And for those of you who think dogs are dirty and filthy, that is not the case. I tought my dog to wipe his feet before he comes in the house.
It is also up to the responsible owner to wash your dog once a week with dog shampoo so they dont smell.
As for jumping up on people and licking , this is unacceptable, and you folk are right, owners should not allow this.

I hate dogs so much lol. I mean literally, I can't stand them. My husband got a Great Dane and I can't stand the smell of it.. or look of its drooling droopy large mouth. I don't like it sniffing me and Lord knows I hate how it jumps on me.. I mean come on the thing weighs almost more then me!!!!!! My husband got a dog even when I told him I hated them this much... yep its not fair. i hate dogs soooo much, I think they are disgusting. My boyfriend recently moved in with me and of coarse brought the mutt. The thing is old and needs to be put down, it is sufering from allot of things, but my boyfriend is selfish and thinking of himself and won't put the dog to sleep!!
